I once got very frustrated and got hacksaw and cut the bottom of the stupid cover to remove it. On a second go around i removed the front wall(4 screws) and bent the frame forward enough to pull the cover forward and then up. I succeded to get it out but was not impressed with engineering of it. But there are plenty of other examples of such "great german engineering" in Vanagon so i will not get into it right now...
