HI all,

We found our aux battery solution, hopefully it works as well as we think it will :)

For those just coming in, we wanted to run a laptop, lights and misc other "plug in" stuff while parked without a hookup (not that a hookup would help us, we have a weekender) and while driving. We have an aux battery spot under the driver's seat but it is small, we couldn't find a deep cycle battery to fit under there.

We have a weekender with a jump seat behind the driver's seat with a LARGE storage area beneath. It is adjacent to the aux battery spot.

So.....what we did was buy a large deep cycle battery (about $50) and my husband ran the wiring back through the thin wall between the battery place and the jump seat storage area. We put the battery in a case and made a little holder so it wouldn't slide around (and we can use the rest of the space for storage). We bought an inverter so we can plug everything in (2 at a time).

We haven't actually used this on the road yet so I can't say how long anything will run and how well the recharge is going to work but I'll report back when we do.

Here are the pictures - http://albums.photopoint.com/j/ViewPhoto?u=1306974&a=11616687&p= 44470972&f=0

If you can't click on that or copy and paste it all, just go to http://www.maherconsulting.com/liz/photos.htm and click on the '85 Vanagon Westy link, the ones dealing with the battery are the last 7 or so.

Thanks for everyone's help, advice and suggestions!

:) Liz
