The little fan used inside the unit is called Fridgemate and uses 2 'D'
cells.
There was a somewhat inexpensive upgrade from VW which increased the amount
of air from the air pump to the combustion chamber to make it easier to
light.

I mounted a small computer cooling fan in the grille on the side of the
cabinet to help pull hot air out of the back. It plugs into a aux lighter
socket I installed nearby.

Now, after all of the above mods, I don't use the fridge. For the type of
camping I do, a large ice chest with a separate ice tub works better. No
need to level the van, switch back and forth from battery to gas or worry
about it going out, all of which call attention when you're camping on the
street in La Jolla, CA.
