After getting broken into for the 3rd time, duh, think I would have learned by now, I put an alarm system in, use the Club in heavily populated or bad neighborhoods and practice good common sense (like where and when I park my van).

Yes, the Club is still made, but I found, just as convenient going to K-mart and getting their $20 version was just as good. In my opinion, the visibility is more important. Two of my 'break-ins' were just vandalism. The first they smashed the triangle vent window to get in. They took a bandana hanging from the rear-view mirror, left the toll money in the ash-tray, the radio and several other things of value that were in open view. Probably neighborhood kids. The second break in was just oil poured over the van (as well as one of my other cars and about 10 others on my street).

The third time was a true break-in and I blame myself. I parked it in Manhattan while visiting my sister in NYC and left it on the street instead of putting it in a garage. They stripped it pretty well. They took everything not bolted down plus the seats, mirrors, radio, wheels/tires, hubcaps and all the loose stuff in the van. I ended up getting my set of snow tires from my father-in-law in CT and driving it back home to DC sitting on a folding chair.

I'll tell you, though, through all the troubles of break-ins, break-downs, I've had more fun and adventures with my family in our van than you can shake a Bentley at. At 202k, I wouldn't trade it for a new one! (When is VW going to come out with a new version of the Westy anyway??? <grin>
