Subject:      1987 syncro cold start high idle

I was wondering if any of you know what might be the problem with my 1987 syncro vanagon.  Starts right up, no matter how cold, idle is very high about 2500 rpm until she gets warm then idle drops to below 1000 rpm.  Whats up?
Also while driving she will buck and sputter unless you open full throttle once and a while.
