<html><DIV> <P>I've removed the one on the intention of replacing it. Over a year has gone by without leaks and such, but it does make a difference! The window does "sag" a little farther into the body frame. The rubber does lose some of it's thickness, so FYI. But like I said, it doesn't seem to affect much. Although, I'm not about to go and yank the windshield/rear window strips!</P> <P>Good Luck </P> <P>Brian Cochran<BR><BR></P></DIV> <DIV></DIV> <DIV></DIV>>From: "Don Preston" <CYBERMAGE@UTAH-INTER.NET> <DIV></DIV>>To: <RANGERBRIAN@HOTMAIL.COM> <DIV></DIV>>CC: <VW@EMRIVER.COM> <DIV></DIV>>Subject: Fw: Window Strips <DIV></DIV>>Date: Fri, 6 Apr 2001 10:08:47 -0700 <DIV></DIV>> <DIV></DIV>>Heya guys, Here's one of the best responses I received. I thought that you might be interested in this post Brian, so I'm forwarding. <DIV></DIV>> <DIV></DIV>>Also, to answer a question from Steve, about 75-80% said to pull them, 10-15% said keep them or replace immediately, and about 5% said to paint them. <DIV></DIV>> <DIV></DIV>>I'm going to pull them this sunday, so I don't know how hard it will be, although I don't think I'll need more that about 15 minutes and a pair of pliers. I thought about the painting idea, but I'm too anal to go that route. They'd still bug me. Some people suggested that the chrome strip helps to re-enforce the molding, but nobody's totally sure about that. <DIV></DIV>> <DIV></DIV>>One thing that is certain is that while the molding on the windshield does affect sealing ability, there have been no reports of leakage after removing the strips from the side windows. <DIV></DIV>> <DIV></DIV>>Hope this info helps, <DIV></DIV>> <DIV></DIV>>-Don <DIV></DIV>> <DIV></DIV>>----- Original Message ----- <DIV></DIV>>From: Neal R. I just replaced all of mine. I got the strips from the "Bus Depot" BUT the proper tool is a must. I used the "window locking strip tool" #LS-758 from Equalizer. www.equalizer.com It cost $15.95 but saved me many times that just in frustration. My westy looks great now. <DIV></DIV>> Good luck <DIV></DIV>> Neal <DIV></DIV><br clear=all><hr>Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at <a href="http://explorer.msn.com">http://explorer.msn.com</a><br></p></html> |
