Hey All, I have had my 85 Westy Auto 1.9L for about a month now. I have done some research and all the info I got said that it should get 16mpg. I am getting 16.2mpg. Is there anything I can do to improve this other than an engine swap? I have a swap planned for the near future, but the engine that is in it runs so nice I hate to yank it before it has served its time.(even did great on emissions test) Are there things that can improve the mileage? I drive easy, mostly around 60mph. I don't run it hard, it is an auto. With the distance that I drive I fill it up every 2 days, this hurts! Even a slight improvement would help. With this poor mileage I am thinking of a 1.9l TD instead of Gas, but will most likely stick with gas due to initial cost. And yes I know, its heavy and shaped like a Brick with a small engine.
