Mike... I'd buy the newest vanagon I could afford if I were you. Remember even the 91's (last year built are eleven years old already. 89, 90, 91's are best as far as I can tell (other listees may argue that point). But obviously they are not the cheapest. Rust, maintainance (or lack thereof), and miles on vehicle and engine are of highest importance. They all need continued upkeep. Syncros are more costly to buy and maintain, but have the obvious 4WD advantages. I love mine, but paid dearly for it. Be prepared to spend some $$$ after the purchase. I'd buy from someone on the list if at all possible... these guys take much better care of their vans than the ordinary joe... but if you're looking for a deal, they can be found... just be prepared to do a thorough check of what you find and run it past the list for suggestions. In general I don't think the list looks to favorably on the Eurovans... I'm not familiar enough with them to comment. Just my .02.
