Subject: Advice on upgrading 88 Westy
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII"

Hello Listees-

This is one of those "I'm riding the fence and I can't decide which way to fall" questions - maybe some of you have been in a similar quandary...

I'm currently driving my third Westy, a blue/blue 88GL automatic, a/c, pretty standard, about an "A-" condition-wise. We love Westfalias, and hope to always have one. I bought it about 2 years ago for $8000, and it's paid for itself many times over in not only recreational value, but also utility use. I've invested a couple thousand in repairs and upgrades(a/c, tires, S&S exhaust, window tint, etc., etc.) and with the normal leaks (oil, coolant) I'm sure more major engine work is on the horizon, but that's to be expected. So - do I just deep the old girl, do the overhaul and be happy with what I've got, OR put it up for sale and look for an upgrade? I'm on a bit of a budget, so my dreams are simple: '89-91, power locks, power widows, 4-speed (a carrat or wolfy package would be REALLY nice...a SYNCHRO would just be plain showy here in SC so that's out). I hope I'm not wasting list space here, but I would definitely appreciate hearing some other thoughts and opinions.

Thanks...

Scott K. Greenville, SC
