I had a leak on my 84 Vanagon and we had to repair the connection to the cat.

If you loose some pressure then you have a greater problem, but if not, a little soldering should be enough. That was my case.

Regards.

Hi Volks, I'm wondering about a possible exhaust leak on my 85 Westie. It may be a bad cat...When I put a rag over the exhaust pipe I can hear a definite sound of air pressure, but when I check underneath around the gaskets there is nothing coming out...It seems like the sound is coming from where the exhaust goes into the cat. Is this normal? A local mechanic seems to think so, since there is nothing actually leaking from around the gaskets. I have had some problems with gaskets blowing in the recent past, but they seem to be holding now. Thanks for any advice, Rick
