All, my 85GL still makes a lifter chatter on the left side, I changed to the black bosch type, seems after a long haul my 1.9l might be kinda worked over, mountain passes kicked its umm arse ;). I was down to 45mph on some of these hills.

Question has been floating around would it be ok to convert my 1.9 to a 2.1 and would a rebuild trany make this all the worth while? my wife and I want to keep our van its a great car for us and the family. * but i need more HORSE *

Thanks Joe 85 GL * getting tired * :(

That's it precisely. The list has experienced many tales of heavy lifter

clattering on startup that went away as soon as the victim changed to an "official" filter. It may or may not be coincidence, but Fram seemed to figure in many of these tales.

Specific Vanagon issues aside, there's a fellow active in MoPar racing or

something who's done some thorough examinations of oil filter quality -- try a google search on oil filter quality. The URL has minimopar in it, pretty sure. From his studies it seems clear that Fram are using their excellent former reputation to sell a filter that's about the worst of the bunch.
