Subject: '90 westy: 1.9L & 2.1L
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

Hi all -- I apologize sincerely for not having the chance to get back to comments made since I posted my initial message. First, I want to thank those of you who've made offers of help or suggestions; I've carefully saved every one and I'm sure that I'll be in touch as we make more plans.

As for the 1.9 vs. 2.1 difference: I am aware, yes, that the 2.1 engine was stock for the 1990 model Westfalia. While I'm sure those of you who say the wiring would be easier for the 2.1 (my companion Sean, who is also on this list, is far more of an expert than I; I'll let him step in with more detail), currently what we have available is the 1.9L engine to accomplish the ferry trip (again, my understanding from what he has told me.)

In the end, the 2.1 will be rebuilt and installed in the vehicle. Any more comments any of you have on -that- issue are welcome as well; I know I've got a lot to learn, and I'm not going to quit without throwing myself into it hands-on! (The knowledgeable help is a plus.) So feel free to toss long tidbits of knowledge my way if you'd like. :)

For example, what kind of gotchas might present significant difficulties for us?

I'll see if I can't find out some more info in the next few days, but we've kept missing each other most of this week.

- Jennifer
