Actually Smarties were bought from Rowntree and (pretty sure here) are now owned by Nestlie. I think Nestlie is Canadian owned.

btw Alistair, your email address suggests you're from my old Alma Matters - how is the old school?

On the window chrome: On my Vanagon I masked it all off from both sides (window and van) and painted it with that silver 'bumper paint' that you can get for cheap at auto part stores. The problem is I should have clear-coated it afterwards: some of it has since rubbed off. I think next time I'll just replace the strip with new.

You should keep in mind that it's called a 'locking strip' for a reason: it locks the windows into the seals. Without it you can push the window and seal out of the car. I know this because that's how I had to get the windows out of the Quantum Syncro I'm restoring...

Damian
