I paid good money for a VW mechanic who wasn't familiar with Vanagons (and in this country no mechanic IS) to pull down an 091 (admittedly a Bay trans, not Vanagon) and 094, only to find he couldn't build a composite trans out of the two.

Don't know about the Vanagon 091.
