Subject: Looking for Front Seats
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII"
Hey again.
Still looking for a driver's seat for my '82 GL Diesel. It's the tan velour
with the zigzag pattern on it. I do not know the name of the pattern. Even if
somebody knows the pattern, I can look it up in ETKA and see if it's still
out there somewhere. My new baby, the early '83.5 wasserboxer, has the same
interior, but its seats have been decimated by heavy UV damage (odd, since
the paint on the van is original, and in very good shape). For that one, I
would consider any '85,'86,'87,? tan interior with the tan/brown 'grid'
pattern.
Also, I have all the light grey seats, and the carpeting out of a burgundy
'87 Syncro. The front seats have the little wheels for armrest height
adjustment. All are in really good shape, with the exception of a small split
in one of the plastic headrests. I'd be willing to trade for tan.
One final note: I'm looking for a good source of Vanagon replacement
sheetmetal. My old diesel started life in PA, and has lived a ripe 207K as a
road warrior. Apart from mechanicals pooping out (doing the whole brake
system and all bearings now), she has aged gracefully. A few recent
accidents, though I wasn't driving it at the time, have kinda left her a bit
lumpy in places. Plus, road salt did some damage, and bad bondo-jobs did
little to help. I'm looking for a new rear passenger wheelarch, and rear
lower quarter panel. I think the other damage can be repaired, but the panels
in question are eaten through, and require replacement. Where can I find good
new sheetmetal? Is it still available from VW? I know it's an old van, and I
have two others, but I think she deserves to be refreshed and refitted, and
I'll be damned if she rots away on my watch.
Thanks in advance for any help.
