Midas has a horrific reputation worldwide as a ripoff outfit, here included. The turbocharger should have floating plain bearings, which shouldn't whine. Turbos' turbines do whine; this is normal, though it should only become noticable as revs rise, not at idle. But if it is faulty, better fix now than later. It should run okay without it (or with it in place but seized, though this will result in power loss due to the inlet and exhaust being obstructed by stationary impeller and turbine).
