Hi Chris, I had what I think was the same problem once with my '85. Every time I filled the tank I got a strong smell of gas. It turned out that the crossover pipe, a t-shaped affair with fittings on both ends, had been installed incorrectly in relation to the linkage. If this happens, one or both ends of the pipe pop out of their fittings. The remedy involves dropping the gas tank. If that's your trouble, a new pipe, if needed, is cheap, but labor, unless you do the work, is expensive. Good luck! Phaedra |
