I built a set of front and a set of rear bike racks for an 84 GL that I had. Each would hold 2 bikes. They had vertical square channels that stayed bolted to the bumper mounts in the rear and the frame in the front (through the bumper in both cases). I then bolted Thule rail type bike holders on to more square tubing that slid onto the parts that were attached to the bus. We would pull up to a bike trail, dismount the bikes, pull some pins and store the racks in the bus. Total on & off for all 4 bikes & racks was only about 5 - 10 minutes. I had zero trouble with headlights or cooling too. I would love to sell these racks. I have pictures that I can e-mail showing them. I spent over $600 building them (Thule rails are over $100.00 each [4 of them]), and would like $250.00 plus shipping for the entire set. A few new bolts may be required. Please p-mail me if interested. Walt Spak Pittsburgh, PA. wnsopc3@3rdm.net |
