Two instances where handling saved my butt. Lafayette Indidana. Traveling 40 mph a car behind a stopped truck in the oncoming lane turns right in front of me. I guess they were impatient and !had! to get somewhere. I slew my 72 audi to the left and then to the right going aroundthe rear end of said dimwit sort of like a lawnmower going past a tree. All this at near lockup. My buddies eyes were as big as saucers and he says matter of factly "you can REALLY drive when you want to...!" Second instance is 5 am traveling 70 mph on the Indiana tollway. I'm in the left lane about 30 meters behind another car in the right lane. A deer runs into the roadway but stops when it sees the car in front of me. Of course he is right in front of me. My 87 gti doesn't fail me as I get on the brakes and get to the inside shoulder missing the deer's rear by inches. In both cases if I hadn't been driving a nimble car it would have been crash city or worse roll over because of the speed. My 2 cents Mark 87 Westie 99 Passat 93 Cabrio |
