Most of us seem to use one of: Chevron Delo 400 Shell Rotella T Pennzoil Longlife All in 15W-40 weight. There are others available, depending on where you live. Your oil should be rated CD or better. Don't be tempted to use Mobil1. The can says it is diesel rated, but at least one listmember has lost an engine due to its inadequacies in diesel applications. Mobil makes Delvac1 synthetic specifically for diesels, but I have never seen it for retail sale.

The dipstick problem is common. There is no seal that will fix it. There are only 2 places for excess crankcase pressure to vent. One is the dipstick tube, the other is the breather on the valve cover. You might try removing the valve cover and using about a whole spray can of solvent (I use brake cleaner) throught the breather. If this solves the problem, you're all set. If not, it's time for a compression check. There will always be a little bit of ring blow-by that causes crankcase pressure, especially at idle. Excessive blow-by indicates worn piston rings.

Can anyone tell me what kind of oil to use for my 1982 turbo diesel? I have no clue.

Also does anyone have the dipstick and oil filler cap. My dispstick goes in a holde in the middle of the oil filler cap. There must be a seal that I am missing because oil comes back out of the hole in the filler cap. And it comes out at a pretty good rate. Or can I but this setup new somewhere

Sharon
