If the combustion system is properly sealed it ought to stay lit in almost all conditions. Typically leaks develop between vent fitting and body, or between the corrugated tubes and the vent fitting. RTV silicone is your friend...be very gentle with the aluminum vent fitting, and make sure that everything fits almost exactly before you start putting screws back in. If you have to exert any significant tension with the screws it will distort and leak.

Not dangerous but fatal to operation as this unseals the combustion chamber. Drain must be sealed up tight.
