Subject: 1.9 Blocks / Heads / Tranny life?
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"; format=flowed

Hello, Been getting into the obsessive mindset that comes with VW ownership since I got my 85GL last week. Crawling all around checking grounds, cleaning contacts, cleaning F.I components Rough idle is gone, hesitation off idle is gone, and much power has been restored!!! I think she likes me....but

I bought a new compression tester and it reads: 1- 135 2- 150 3- 105 4- 140

I take that info to mean that I need (at least) new heads soon.... My question is: She's got 123K on her and has apparrently had new heads once before. Im not sure what the life expectancy of the block / pistons / cyls is. At this ODO reading, should I assume that the best course of action is to go with a rebuilt block and new heads?

Does anyone know where I could read something about diagnosing the tranny, it sometimes is pretty sticky getting into first at the stoplight, and when it does that, it kinda "clunks" into gear... Breaks my heart. This is bad right?

Thanks alot folks,

Jason Loewenstein, Completely obsessed. 85GL 122K
