This refers to warning bidders about a seller. Used to be a common practice
for do-gooders to contact bidders and tell them they were bidding too much
("Why, I can get that there Thermos new at Wal-Mart fer less than you've bid
on that raggedy-assed used one!").
You may warn sellers about deadbeat bidders.
