removing the tranny in my 84 was a piece of cake. here is the run down. disconnect the battery support the engine somehow. You need to support it to the bus and not the ground! So get some chain and 2x4's and figure it out. That was the most time consuming part. Then unbolt the stuff attached to the tranny (clutch stuff, ground strap, axles, linkage...). Then put a jack under the tranny (a rolling floor jack is easiest) and unbolt the front of the tranny and then the engine. THen lower the front of the tranny and slide it out leaving the engine hanging in space. Now your tranny is on the floor jack. So slide it out from under the bus, and drain the fluids and replace with redline. The clutch is easy to remove. You'll probabyl want to surface the flywheel. Do that by removeing the flywheel (8mm allen bolts i think- i used an impact wrench to loosen the bolts) and bringing it to a machine shop. Should cost under 50$. mine cost 18$. There are two surfaces to machine so be sure the machinist knows that- which they should. W/ the flywheel out, be sure check to signs of leaks.
