Somewhere (I believe the Mobil 1- 800 phone number on the box) I heard that
you are not supposed to use Mobil 1 wherever Teflon is present. This is
specifically on any oil filters in conjunction with the Mobil 1 oil. From
what I am told - many oil filters have Teflon in them and can't be used with
Mobil 1 oil.
I ran Mobil One 5-50 weight for over 150,000 miles in my 88 Westy. In all
that time there was never a Mobil One filter available for an 88 Westy. If
you did use a Mobil One oil filter - which catalogue number did you use?
I failed to mention that I had chronic valve tapping on my old engine often
while using Mobil 1. The tapping would go away after the engine was really
warmed up ( about 15 to 20 minutes of driving). When I called the 800 Mobil
number - they recommended that I use 5 - 50 weight oil in an 88 VW.
