Hi Kim, I think the square filter is the one you need to change. I just replaced the fuel filter (square one, from Ken Wilford at Van-Again) on my 85 GL 1.9 . Bentley's has a picture on page 20.2 with an expanded view of the fuel system as a whole and on page 20.4 figure 1 of the fuel filter itself. This is where mine is: at about the sliding door handle crawl under the van about 2 feet, it should be just in front of the fuel pump. I had some gas leakage from the filter when I changed it so I'd suggest wearing safety goggles :)
