Karl, Possibly.

However, I never forced the drums off. Maybe the PO did.

I will say this---The pedal always pulsed a little, even ater I had changed everything the first time.

Right now, all is well, and time will tell if the backing plates are cooked.

Boy, will I be hostile, if this in fact, is the root of this problem.

These Vans are most certainly, the Frankenstein Monsters !!
