Stu,
I "made" an effective screen for my Westy using a nice, soft
screening fabric rated to foil even the dreaded "no see 'ems"--
it's given two successful winter's service camping in Mexico
& is cheap & quick to "make."

Here's what you do:
From an outdoor equipment store, such as REI, buy a length
of fine screen fabric as wide as the slliding door opening &
long enough for the bottom to hang about six inches lower
than the threshold, which keeps the screen from blowing into
the van in a breeze.
Don't worry about the little cracks at the top of the sliding curtain--I've
never had critters getting in there.

Just measure the fabric, cut, & sew it to the bottom of the
curtain while it's still in place.
You can do this by hand with a needle & thread.
Takes just minutes.  Cheap, simple, effective.
