I've said it before, I'll say it again. Any town of any size will have at least one starter/alternator/generator rebuilder in it. Instead of buying a rebuilt unit, go visit them. Have your existing unit rebuilt and save a ton of money. My Vanagon starter took exactly $35 to be repaired four years ago. My experience with 'rebuilt' starters has not been a pleasant one. Spend your money locally. Typically the local guy will replace the bushings and brushes, clean up the amature and the solenoid. Might even give it a coat of paint. Check it out.
