Has anyone ever had a universal joint for the power steering wear out. Mine seems to have play that produces a knock or mild clunk when the steering wheel is rocked back and forth. I think it's from all those thousands of miles of bumpy dirt road. (This is on a syncro) And what about the "Relay Steering Gear" as it is called by VW...the box where the steering shaft comes in from the steering wheel, and then exits at about a 50 degree angle on to the power steering rack. Is there any maitenance for this ? Do they ever wear out. Aside from the PS universal joint, i am going to replace the three steering couplings...unless someone tells me this would be a waste of time. Any other steering parts/maitenance I should take care of while i am doing this? thanks Steve |
