Subject: 87 westie syncro maintenance and what is a motor worth?
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"
Hello,
I am sure there is an elaborate list somewhere with this information so here
goes. We would like to have a detailed maintenance schedule for our 87
syncro westie. This car has 40k, original, on the clock. Being that the
car is 14 years old we would like to change out all the fluids and purchase
all of the various filters, belts, and hoses that people with experience
recommend for a vehicle of this age and mileage. In addition, if it is
recommended that we should change out the waterpump (seems a little early
for that) we will do it.
We would also like a recommendation on all items that we should carry with
us when travelling; I saw some of the emails going around a couple of weeks
back on the topic and recollect things like a waterpump, jumper cables,
alternator, belts....that's about the total of my recollection.
We have only had the car for a couple of weeks; it runs fine. It does not
smoke, starts right up, and pulls smooth from 1000 rpm up to 4200 (that's as
high as I rev it). The engine is competely stock; ie, no chip, exhaust
upgrades..stock.
And, last but not least; it crossed my mind that a stock 2.1L wasserboxer
with 40k original on the clock in great condition might be worth some money.
Any suggestions on what this motor might be worth? What is crossing my mind
is that if the motor could be sold for, say, 3k then that would finance much
of a TIICO inline 4 engine upgrade; just a thought. Whenever I step on it
that thought crosses my mind.
Regards,
Carl
