Subject: bought a vanagon on eBay....

Yes, I bought a vanagon on eBay, an '85 GL that my girlfriend Wendy and I affectionately named "Grover" (due to the similarity of the paintjob to the beloved Sesame Street character)... I live in PA and the seller was in NC, so after I won the auction I bought a bus ticket and the seller met me at the bus station, took me home with him to pick her up, and I drove it non-stop back home, nine hours straight.

After almost 200K, I think that's a pretty glaring testimony to the durability of our beloved Vanagons.

But, in terms of practical concerns, I developed a dialouge with the seller, who was completely honest with me about the van, in terms of what I was getting, and I'm the thrilled owner of an '85 GL, $1000 and a bus ticket later.

Now, this is not to say that everyone who has used eBay has had the same experience as myself.... obviously, some earlier posts are testament to that, but I've also bought almost a dozen guitars on eBay, and I've underpriced the stores in my area by well over $100 in almost every instance...and in some, by as much as $300.

The only thing I've gotten burned on eBay by would be Pokemon cards...much to my nine year old sons' dismay....
