Subject: Seam rust
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"

All, Is there a proactive way to nip seam rust in the bud? While washing my 91 GL, I notice that the seam sealer is cracking in places. In some seams there is the slightest hint of rust-coloring. I know that seeing the slightest hint of rust-coloring means that there is indeed rust down there somewhere. What can I do to halt the progression?

I'm not real keen on scraping all the seam sealer out, and going that route...I don't want to repaint the van. I was thinking something along the lines of covering the seam sealer with clear nail polish or something to seal up the cracks. But that wouldn't address the rust inside....

Just keep the seams clean and don't drive it on the salty roads in the winter?

Any ideas?

Bob East Haddam, CT
