I would try doing this if you would like to install some excellent speakers in the doors of your vanagon:

I used Boston Acoustic CX4 speakers, I removed the original grills and cut the cover right behind the mounting surface, all you want to retain is the cover, not the screw housing and old speaker.

You will want to mount the screws in the middle of the ring of plastic surrounding the speaker holes, you will have to take a dremmel to the spkr housing so that it will allign with the holes you just made in the modified cover. it looks good and looks stock, but sounds 10 times better than the original speaker

More Clearence for front door speakers

Fellow Vanageeks,

I've noticed in reports in the past of list members having a narrow choice in speakers for the front doors. Having had to replace my door cranks with new VW ones from Bus Depot, I noticed that the replacement ones give about a 1/2 inch more clearence for the speaker. Hope this helps out all you audiofiles out there.
