Subject: Audi a4 wheels and 16V engines
Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed

Ok guys, I have a set of Audi A4 wheels for my Vanagon. It's a '91. The wheels are 16". I have found a set of tires (215/70/16's) that are available for this wheel. I am wondering about offset and wheel depth. Has anyone tried this? The tires in question are BFGoodrich KO series and they are LT tires. I have a friend who will machine the hub-centrics to the proper size. Basically I need to know if this size tire will clear my wheel wells and also am I going to have any REAL offset problems. If so then what can be done to correct this. I am not worried about lugbolt length as this is rather trivial compared to making these wheels fit my Van.

On another note I read somewhere that earlier Vans have better spring rates which make the van ride a little higher. Truth or fiction?

Basically what I am geting at is that I need more ground clearance and would like to do it with style ;-)

Separate subject. What kind of problems should I foresee installing a 1.8L 16valve engine in my Van. I dont need to know about mounting or injection; I already have that one covered. Basically, I need to know if I have to modify the engine compartment lid (not wanting to do) and also exhaust system options. Does Techtonics have a setup for this?

Ideas? I know there are alot of you out there and would like as much input as possible. Please respond to me personally as I am on the digest. TIA!
