I've driven from San Antonio TX to OR before, usually took from 3 to 4 days driving 8 to 12 hours a day. I'm doing the trip this summer from Austin TX to OR in my 82 Westfalia, it's got a new engine with a couple thousand miles on it. I had all kinds of trouble after the engine was replaced, but the van was new to me so there was lots of stuff that needed attention. I enjoy driving, watching the country go by, and stopping where I want, when I want. Taking a plane is much too confining, especially those little seats.

> Does anyone have an estimate, or know from experience how long it takes to get from CT to OR? Days/hrs? I've done it in a car, exceeding the local speed limits and only stopping for gas (2 days), but never in a Vanagon. Mine is a 1981 Westy. He's got a brand new rebuilt in 'em, currently 0 miles (not quite done yet) and lots of other new fixes. Hoping all goes well before I actually leave. > I'm not looking to break any records this time, just get out there in one piece and not lollygag around on my way (I have a deadline). > Any commentary appreciated!
