If this is one of the ones with electronic ignition I've never seen one -- for manual-type the method that works fine for me is to press the gas button and at the same time start pumping, each stroke pushing the pump rod all the way past the detent so it causes a spark. I watch the thermocouple light and stop pressing/pumping when the light starts to light.

Many people find the fridge easier to light if it's warmed up with 110vac operation for half an hour first.
