Well, just thought I'd commiserate with all of you.

I've spent the past few weeks (between exams) getting my 87 Westy ready for the long road home: the 10,000 km between Victoria, BC and Goose Bay, Labrador.

It's been rather enjoyable, playing shady tree mechanic in the Victoria sunshine. Replaced the rear brakes, monkeyed with the camper equip, etc...and then took it into the shop (Beetle Auto) for the real work that needs to be done: reseal or rebuild the auto transmission and fix the ooze of coolant from the heads that I've been doing my best to ignore.

Should only cost me between $2.5-5K (Cdn) for the tranny and the engine work...but it beats getting stranded somewhere on the gravel between Baie Comeau and Labrador City on Rte 389, literally 500 km from anywhere...so I'm biting the bullet and getting the work done now.
