Hey Carl, i just fired mine up for the first time too, and it was a bit reluctant. I went thru the process several times after turning on the gas for the first time, but it would not fire up till I sat there and worked that plunger exactly 200 times, then, it fired up with the first click.

Probably won't work for you, but it worked for me.
