At 2:46 PM -0600 4/25/01, Cory Zumbrennen rearranged electrons to say:

Hey Ken do you think that you could install one of these Fuba antennas in the normal antenna position? Does the angle of the Fuba match the angle of the Vanagon Nose? If it did that the antenna should point straight up and be totally flexable. Are the ones you have for $50 the amplified version?

A photo of the Fuba antenna on the roof of my 2K Golf GLS:

Since it's not early August yet, I don't have my Westy yet, so I can't check the nose angle of a Vanagon for a test fit; hopefully someone can use this photo to tell whether it would work.

I've got a Bentley for the Golf on CD-ROM that I bought used this weekend; if it has part numbers (I hope it does), I'll look up that info when I get home ... but I can't see a Fuba antenna costing more than 20. $15 or $10 is more likely.

Warning: the Fuba is easy to remove (just grab it by the base and twist), so in areas where antennas are stolen often, you might want to get some ThreadLock to hold it in the socket.

They are flexible -- to a point. Don't try to bend it into a perfect U-shape, but you can bend the tip at least a couple of inches.
