I have without question seen instructions for installing onto Windows 2000. I need to find them myself...but they exist.

As to the monitor, the program neither knows nor cares whether your monitor is the size of a gnat's behind, only that your combination of video card and monitor can display 1280x1024. Some modern 15" monitors can do this, and these days most video cards can as well. The image is pretty small, but it's there. OTOH there exist 17" monitors that cannot do 1280x1024...
