Subject: Rear speakers replacement with a/c
Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed

Hello and thanks to all for their advice on how to install the new speakers into my '87 Westy (with a/c). Unfortunately, none of the advice I received panned out so I feel I need to share my experience to help any other poor soul out there that is thinking about attempting the same thing.

Now, I heard that I could "easily" remove the front face plate of the a/c duct and have ample space to get at the speakers. As I found out, this was NOT TRUE for me. It may work for other models, but not my '87 Westy! We couldn't even get at the rear screws in the WAY back (on the driver's side). Instead we simply cut away the old speakers since they were blown anyway and installed the new ones. Very quick and easy. Now if I had wanted to actually KEEP the old speakers, I don't have a clue of HOW we could have actually gotten to those dang rear screws.

The lesson of the day, if you NOT going to keep those old speakers, cut them out and then install the new ones. VERY EASY! Also, get the kind of speakers that take screws from the front!

Hope this helps someone and saves you some time, Jen Loerzel Karma Rose '87 Westy
