Ha ha ha! Forget it! If you think that is OK, then were do you draw the line. Should I sue VW for not putting seat belts in my (if I had one) 1958 Type 1???

My wife got rear ended in her VW Cabriolet a few years back and the driver seat belt would no longer retract after the accident. We went to the VW dealer to a warranty replacement as this was clearly defective. Nope... no life time warranty on seat belts like Ford and Chrysler has.

Also, just so well all know there is the mounting points for three point seat belts in the rear of a Vanagon. Does anyone know if this is true for a 1987 VW Fox - just got one, want to upgrade!

What is interesting to me is the run-around I got from VW when I tried to get information about rear shoulder belts and headrests some 5 years ago. Although I told VW's consumer rep that I had already talked to the local dealer who had no idea about what I was talking, they referred me to the dealer(???). VW would not even supply me with the necessary part numbers. I gave up in disgust, but, in light of this recent revelation, I think another call is ordered.

I think VW should retrofit the shoulder belts and head restraints to any Vanagon still on the road; on their dime, too! I would just bet that the Vanagons delivered to Sweden were so equipped at all seating positions.

Could an e-mail campaign be worth the effort?
