To be sure what transmission service includes or doesn't you'd have to read the fine print and talk to the service manager. Since I enjoy the mess, aggravation and ultimately peace of mind, I change the filter when I change the fluid -- it's fairly cheap and not hard to get to. Since I'm not pushing the van hard I'm sticking to the Bentley recommendations. What does 'one guy' mean by 'because of fluids crossing over'? If you are swapping final drive lube or coolant into the tranny you have more problems than frequent tranny fluid and filter changes will help. If this guy is in the tranny service business I think I'd go somewhere else. Chuck '85 Wolfsburg Westy -- 'Roland the Road Buffalo'

I've heard different opinions on how often to do a transmission service. One guy said he recommended doing it more often on an automatic because of fluids crossing over.
