Does it start as soon as you engage the starter? Or does it grind a while before it catches? What color is the smoke coming out of the exhaust? What else do you notice when it starts "jerking and puffing?" Any lights come on in the instrument cluster -- e.g., the oil pressure warning light? I really think, Dieter, if you can provide some more specific information on your van's symptoms, someone on the list will be able to help you out. Just relax a bit and think things through.
