When I replaced my antenna with a retractable electric one, I did the following to remove the old antenna.

Removed the top of the antenna base (screw-on) There was an inverted "T" arrangement on the antenna base, however the bottom of the "T" is moveable, so you have to move it, turning the inverted "T" into an "I". Then the antenna will lift up through the body.
