Hello Vanagon friends,

Just returned from a six week tour of the southwest in our 84 westy. What an experience! Had only minimal problems with the van...... like a hole in a major coolant hose in the middle of the Navaho reservation in northeast Arizona. But hey... I had duct tape, spare coolant and some clamps and was able to turn around and make it 90 miles to Flagstaff where I found the incredible VW-Porsch services of Burks Autohaus (more on that later).

After viewing (many times), Karl Bloss's outstanding web page Kirsten and I decided to give it a try and document out westy trip along with a few additional VW-Westy things. The web site is at.... www.uwstout.edu/ctem/technology/berkemerb/berks

Give it a look and let me know what you think. It is our first attempt though and lacks the polish of some of the great sites on our vanagon list. I'll write some more in a couple of days about thoughts on the westy and traveling as well as some of the great westy-VW people we met.

Later, Bob Berkemer 84 westy Menomonie WI
