Troll bait for sure, but ......

If such a thing exists, the diesel models are minimalist Westies. The gasoline engines have enough power to run things like power steering, air conditioning, and a load of electrical accessories. The 1.6 diesel is just enough to run the van at 60 MPH or so on the highway if it is on level ground. It is a living relic of the 55 MPH national speed limit. I have seen claims of 22 or so MPG for the gas models. My diesel camper gets about 29 MPG when loaded full of camping junk. Each have their own place in the Vanagon world.

FWIW, I own 2 diesel campers, so I travel in a little rolling zen experience where it doesn't really matter when you 'get there'. Wherever you go, there you are :-)
