Hi Chris

I had a similar problem with the rear wiper only operating when the front wipers were on fast (and not alwyas then). With the front wipers off, on low or intermittent, neither the rear wiper nor rear washer operated. The problem turned out to be a dirty switch contact at the steering column/turn signal switch.

I fixed it by firstly disconnecting the battery and then taking off the lower and then upper column switch covers. With careful manipulation the upper cover can be removed from the projecting column switch arm.

After the covers are removed the wiper contact ring and the contacting arm are visible. I inserted a doubled up piece of 800 grade (very fine) emery paper between the ring and the contact and, with the turn signal arm pressed, I slid the paper up and down a few times to clean the contacts. After re-assembling the covers and reconnecting the battery, the rear wiper and washer worked correctly. It's not a big job but slightly fiddly.

Cheers
