John,
Check out the required components described in Bentley on this. It
is pretty simple if you have all the parts. About the hardest part
that I could see would be to run the vaccum line to the brake pedal
to de-activate the cruising.
If you can find all the components in a junk yard or off a list
member it should not be too hard to install it.
Don't know if this was available on the 83s so check on the back of
your 83 speedometer to see if there is a little plate with two screws
that can be removed. It should be right by the socket for the speedo
cable. This is where the inductor needs to be installed to determine
the speed at which the van is supposed to maintain. If your speedo
does not have this you will need to find a newer speedo with that
capability..... if you want to maintain all the VW components for the
cruise control. I think all other components can be out of an Audi.
I have diagnosed and fixed my cruiser so let me know if you need help
or part numbers. I can also scan the right pages out of Bentley if
you do not have that handy.
Cheers,
Joel
